General Notices

Thank you
A very Big Thank you! to all of you at the churches who brought the beautifully wrapped gifts to the Gift service. The gifts will be distributed between the Children & Family Centre Bicester and Homestart Oxford. The Health Visitors were amazed at such generosity and thoughtfulness! Thank you.

REFRESHMENTS after the Open Space Service
Can you help with refreshments after Open Space services? We would like to keep offering tea and coffee in church after Open Space! But despite being energetic and dedicated, many of our tea and coffee team members are over 70 and some are not able to carry things from the refectory to church. We would like to make a new team of people able and willing to make and serve refreshments in the church, so that we continue to offer this once a month. Some people find it intimidating to come into a new space for refreshments and many people do go home who might otherwise stay for a drink and a chat. That's why it's important for us to do this. So calling younger men and women: can you help us? (We have a couple of people already.) Thank you.

ADVENT & GIFT SUNDAY 3rd December

We are asking you to provide gifts for families in particular need, who may not otherwise be able to afford a little something special for themselves and their children. Please wrap and mark/tag the gift and say if it is for a girl, boy and age, or for a man or woman. Thank you.

For everything a season
Through the New Church year with Laura
Sundays 3rd and 17th December
Every Advent we start a new church year. This year Laura is going to offer a series of teaching slots on the significance and meaning of each liturgical season, after the Sunday service at St Mary's (eg Advent, Christmas and epiphany, lent, Easter, Pentecost, Ascension...). Just as coffee time concerts happen at roughly 11.30 for half an hour, so Laura's reflections will be spread throughout the year according to the seasons, at roughly 11.30am. There will be 20 minutes teaching plus questions. No need to sign up. No need to go to every one. No questions too stupid. She will cover the season of Advent on Sundays 3rd and 17th Dec with two talks entitled: 'Watch out!', and 'Why are we waiting?'. Notes from the talks will appear on the series page

Christingle Service 3rd December

PARISH ADVENT COURSE: CONTINUES 5th December
by listening more deeply to the Beatitudes as we think about the call to be a more Christ-like Church: to be more contemplative, more compassionate and more courageous. We will explore the Beatitudes in Matthew's gospel together, using material specifically written for this purpose. The group will meet on Tuesday evenings: 5th and 12th December, 8.15 to 9.45pm at St John's Church. All are welcome.
GATEHOUSE Collections 7th and 17th December
Thank you for your continuing support for the Gatehouse, which is even more necessary now that Oxford City Council have blocked off some doorways in the city centre, which are the only place homeless people have to shelter on these cold winter nights.  The next Gatehouse food collection is December 7th. Please put any donations in the box in the Refectory, or bring them to 60, Cherry Close on that date by 4pm. Only food which doesn't need to be cooked, please - sandwich-making items, sugar, tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits and cup-a-soups.

At Christmas we always make a further collection of gifts for the people who use the Gatehouse facilities. We need warm hats, scarves, gloves, socks and underwear (all new, please, not second-hand) or large bars of chocolate by December 17th or you can drop them off to 60, Cherry Close by that date or give them to Sarah Karatzios or Margaret Day. You don't have to be a regular Gatehouse contributor to give a gift. Thank you again for your generosity.
