Dated Notices

Mothers' Union Sep 1st
Alison Bennett (MU Diocesan President) is coming to talk to us in the Refectory on Friday Sep 1st at 10am, about how our gifts of toiletries etc are used by parents staying with sick children. I have been overwhelmed by your generous donations so far! Thank you. I will continue collecting until the end of this month. We will start with a short worship session, followed by Alison's talk at about 10.30am. All are welcome. Pam.
Confirmation Preparation Tue Sep 5,12,26th & Oct 3rd
Our next confirmation service with Bishop Steven is on October 8th. This is when we renew the promises made for us at baptism and take responsibility for our faith as adults. The adult preparation sessions will take place on Tuesday 5th, 12th, 26th September and 3rd October, from 8pm-9:30pm, at St John's. We are also planning two Sunday evening outings in September: to evensong at Christ Church and a worship service at St Aldates. The preparation sessions are a good way for anyone to re-examine their faith, whether confirmed or not. Please do have a chat with any of the clergy if you are interested.
OPEN SPACE PLANNING FOR THE YEAR AHEAD Sep 6th
Open Space creative services have been running for a year now and have been planned and led by a whole variety of lay people working with the clergy. If you would like to help us plan one or more of them in the year ahead please come to a meeting on Wed Sep 6th at 8pm in St Mary's when you can sign up to be part of a team for one or more of these monthly services. (Planning does not mean you have to stand up front and lead so please don't be shy!) If you can’t come but would like to be involved please tell Felicity.

OXFORD HISTORIC CHURCHES TRUST RIDE AND STRIDE Saturday 9th September
is the date for this year's Oxford Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride. Since the Trust was founded, grants totalling several million pounds have been made to churches in Oxfordshire. A significant proportion of this money has been raised by the annual St/Rides so the work of Church Coordinators is of major importance. Last year the St/Ride raised over £120,000. The Ride and Stride is also an effective way of raising funds for your Church as 50% of the sponsor money (excluding GiftAid) is returned to the churches nominated by the participants. We'd really love to see loads of participants in this year’s ride and stride. You can choose to cycle and walk - visiting the many beautiful local churches - or donate some time and act as a church welcomer at St Mary's Kidlington. It is suitable for all ages and abilities. If you are interested in taking part, please contact Richard Davies on 01865 376053.

FESTIVAL OF PRAYER 9TH September
at CUDDESDON. Bishop Steven, the Bishop of Oxford, is giving the keynote address, and a number of spiritual directors will be offering one-to-one introductory spiritual direction sessions of around 45-50 minutes as well as many workshops on prayer and spirituality. If you would like to book one of these direction sessions, or any of the other workshops for the Festival, visit their [webpage].

OPEN SPACE SERVICE 17th Sept
The theme of the September Open Space service is "being magnetic" and will be a Eucharist service. The theme of the October Open Space service is Generosity, which will link with harvest and our wider reflections on what we give to others. Please contact Laura if you would like to be involved in the planning.

WILLOW TREE CAFE LUNCHES 20th September
at 12noon at Willow Tree Cafe. All welcome. Please let Peter and Jan Jeffreys know if you would like to come. Tel. 580659.

St Mary's CHORISTERS Sunday 24th Sept
We are looking forward to welcoming the 13 children in the new children's choir and their parents, friends, siblings. They have started rehearsing and will sing for the first time on Sunday 24th September and from then on twice a month. This is an exciting venture both musically, missionally, and pastorally. We know that everyone will be ready to make them and their families in the congregation very welcome, especially as many of them will not be familiar with church services. Thank you to David for leading this venture. Please pray for the new choir and support them.

TOUR AND EVENSONG AT CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL Sunday 24th September
We have arranged a tour of Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday 24th September at 4pm before Evensong at 6pm. The trip has been organised as part of the Confirmation preparation, but everyone is welcome to come along. We need an idea of numbers for the tour and to reserve seats at Evensong, so please add your name to the sign-up sheet in church.

2020 BUILDING PROJECTS CONSULTATION MEETINGS 28th Sept
As part of our 800th birthday celebrations for St Mary's Kidlington and St Mary's Hampton Poyle we have three important building projects which will enhance the ministry in both our ancient churches: a toilet for HP, a mended roof for Kidlington, and a rebuilt redesigned or completely new refectory / hall for Kidlington. Before making a brief for architects we would like to consult you. What sort of hall would you like to see? what or who would you like to see it used for? what are the creative possibilities in designing it? We are holding two consultation meetings: Thursday 28th September for parish members, and Thursday 2nd November for stakeholders and local people. Both are at 8pm in St Mary's. Please do tell others and come with your thoughts and ideas.

Friends of St Mary's Kidlington 29th September
The Friends' Annual dinner will be held on Friday evening September 29th in the Rector's lodgings, Exeter College, Oxford by kind permission of Sir Rick Trainer, Rector of the College and Patron of the Friends. This is a very special evening with beautiful food in spectacular surroundings for Friends and guests. Timings and costs to follow, but expressions of interest to Felicity as soon as possible please. (If you are not a friend would you like to join? See the leaflet at the back of church, or see The Friends website.)

CTK Breakfast event 30th September
On Saturday September 30th at 9am at Kidlington Baptist Church. CTK Churches congregations are invited to join us. Money will be raised by donations on the day. Families and children are welcome. Tickets for the Breakfast, for catering purposes, from Margaret Day and Jill Buckeldee.
