THE OXFORD CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL
During this month and next I will be collecting toiletries & other items for families to use when they stay with their children in hospital. This is a diocesan Mothers' Union project. The items required are Shower gel, shampoo, soap (all sizes of these), toothbrushes & toothpaste; tea bags and sachets of coffee, hot chocolate & malted drinks; small packets of biscuits (those containing only 2 or 3). Thank you. Pam Cooper.

GATEHOUSE
Thank you to everyone for your magnificent efforts with contributing food for the Gatehouse over the past year. The next Gatehouse collection will be towards the end of September. (If you would like to contribute anything before then, the box will still be in the refectory throughout August and September) Keep an eye on the notice board for the next date. If anyone would like to volunteer to deliver the food contributions to the Gatehouse once a year, please speak to Sarah Karatzios or Margaret Day. Thank you again!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
For our new Stay and Play 0-5 year old group on Monday afternoons (1pm-2.30pm) at St John's. Building on the success of Little Acorns, Bouncing Babies, and the other services for children, comes this new afternoon group. The format is similar to Little Acorns, although we anticipate slightly smaller numbers. If you can offer a regular commitment, once a month, or more often, (helping with craft, running the kitchen, talking to carers and children, setting up, etc) you would be very welcome. Please contact Martin 07909 976637 martindavis26@tiscali.co.uk.
Thank you
to everyone involved in the Flower Festival which continues today. We hope you enjoy the arrangements and the music throughout the weekend. All money raised is for Christian Aid.

THANK YOU from Laura
Thank you to all of you helping to make Sunday's ordination service so special. It was wonderful to be on home territory and to have so many people there to support me. Thanks to all of you for your prayers and support. Particular thanks go to: Felicity, Martin and the servers for making the service run so smoothly; David and the choir for the fabulous music; Jan Jeffreys and the flower arrangers for the beautiful flowers; Philippa and her team for the delicious refreshments. And to all of you who helped in so many other ways, thank you. I am very blessed to be serving here. Laura

Looking Ahead

Mothers' Union Sep 1st
Alison Bennett (MU Diocesan President) is coming to talk to us in the Refectory on Friday Sep 1st at 10am, about how our gifts of toiletries etc are used by parents staying with sick children. I have been overwhelmed by your generous donations so far! Thank you. I will continue collecting until the end of this month. We will start with a short worship session, followed by Alison's talk at about 10.30am. All are welcome. Pam.
Confirmation Preparation Tue Sep 5,12,26th & Oct 3rd
Our next confirmation service with Bishop Steven is on October 8th. This is when we renew the promises made for us at baptism and take responsibility for our faith as adults. The adult preparation sessions will take place on Tuesday 5th, 12th, 26th September and 3rd October, from 8pm-9:30pm, at St John's. We are also planning two Sunday evening outings in September: to evensong at Christ Church and a worship service at St Aldates. The preparation sessions are a good way for anyone to re-examine their faith, whether confirmed or not. Please do have a chat with any of the clergy if you are interested.
OPEN SPACE PLANNING FOR THE YEAR AHEAD Sep 6th
Open Space creative services have been running for a year now and have been planned and led by a whole variety of lay people working with the clergy. If you would like to help us plan one or more of them in the year ahead please come to a meeting on Wed Sep 6th at 8pm in St Mary's when you can sign up to be part of a team for one or more of these monthly services. (Planning does not mean you have to stand up front and lead so please don't be shy!) If you can’t come but would like to be involved please tell Felicity.

OXFORD HISTORIC CHURCHES TRUST RIDE AND STRIDE Saturday 9th September
is the date for this year's Oxford Historic Churches Trust Ride and Stride. Since the Trust was founded, grants totalling several million pounds have been made to churches in Oxfordshire. A significant proportion of this money has been raised by the annual St/Rides so the work of Church Coordinators is of major importance. Last year the St/Ride raised over £120,000. The Ride and Stride is also an effective way of raising funds for your Church as 50% of the sponsor money (excluding GiftAid) is returned to the churches nominated by the participants. We'd really love to see loads of participants in this year’s ride and stride. You can choose to cycle and walk - visiting the many beautiful local churches - or donate some time and act as a church welcomer at St Mary's Kidlington. It is suitable for all ages and abilities. If you are interested in taking part, please contact Richard Davies on 01865 376053.

FESTIVAL OF PRAYER 9TH September
at CUDDESDON. Bishop Steven, the Bishop of Oxford, is giving the keynote address, and a number of spiritual directors will be offering one-to-one introductory spiritual direction sessions of around 45-50 minutes as well as many workshops on prayer and spirituality. If you would like to book one of these direction sessions, or any of the other workshops for the Festival, visit their [webpage].

WILLOW TREE CAFE LUNCHES 20th September
at 12noon at Willow Tree Cafe. All welcome. Please let Peter and Jan Jeffreys know if you would like to come. Tel. 580659.

TOUR AND EVENSONG AT CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL Sunday 24th September
We have arranged a tour of Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday 24th September at 4pm before Evensong at 6pm. The trip has been organised as part of the Confirmation preparation, but everyone is welcome to come along. We need an idea of numbers for the tour and to reserve seats at Evensong, so please add your name to the sign-up sheet in church.
