About this deal

It's not designed to be an "all-rounder" to quickly switch between pour overs and espresso, rather it's designed to produce excellent, fluffy espresso grinds. You could get the cheapest model that will do the bare minimum, but the risk is that you’ll be tempted to upgrade in a year or two.

What I've been doing after getting a fresh bag of beans is dialling in the coffee with a coffee scale, and then matching the timer to get more or less the correct dose every time. Even better, it is available in a range of vivid colours, ensuring there's a Mignon Specialita to suit every taste.

For example, you might be dialed in at 10 for espresso, but then take it up to 40 for cafetiere for example, you can then just turn the dial back to 10 on the LCD screen to go back to where you were.

And the labelling makes it tricky to find your way back to previous settings or even to know which way to turn it to go coarser or finer. This is really what you're looking for when grinding for espresso, nice fluffy grinds without clumping – and this is what I experienced with the Mignon Specialita, lovely fluffy clump free grounds. This meticulous process ensures that the information you receive from Home Grounds is not only engaging and useful but also trustworthy and reliable. She starts every morning with a fresh Americano from her home espresso machine, or she doesn’t start it at all.

I think all of the Mignon models will grind comfortably for manual or espresso, but I think it makes sense to look at Silenzio and Specialita for espresso, and Crono, Perfetto, or Brew Pro for manual brewing, as these have features that are more geared towards grinding for manual brewing.

This model is the same as the other Mignons in that the internals are identical but its basic, no electronics, no timer, just a manual dosing which is fine. There are also other features that you won’t see but you will definitely notice when grinding the coffee: Eureka’s silent technology, for instance, makes it up to 10 dB quieter than the previous generation allowing you to prepare your early morning coffee without waking up the whole family.

The Magnifico is a model currently only being sold in Germany I think – and from what I can see it’s the same as the Specialita, but with Eureka’s “Diamond Inside” burrs which are made to last for longer: https://www.

Excellent post that popped in my feed just in time when I’m looking for an electric grinder to replace my Zassenhaus manual grinder. It's silent technology and an all purpose fork for hands free operation, makes this espresso grinder a fantastic choice.
