About this deal

It's well written and the characters are excellent, and there is a twist towards the end which left me 'Wow! During his stay in the prison, he had made many connections with the people of the underworld and now he has started thinking that he owns the criminal underworld. The characters were multi-dimensional, even the short-used ones, and their interactions were dramatic without being forced.

What a rollercoaster of a ride, what a broken family ,i,ve read this book twice and the second time I found myself reading parts that I some how missed the first time around, when I read books on this subject (family), I find myself feeling so lucky to have come from such a big loving family , sadly my father passed away very young, having older brothers and sisters this story has made me appreciate my family thank you Martina 😉 and Annie Aldington brilliantly narrated as always 10/10. Nick Leary had grafted hard and at times bad to get to the position of owning a million pound mansion, having a beautiful wife and living the good life when he catches an armed burglar in his home, and beats him into a coma. I had high hopes at the beginning as an intruder is injured by a householder protecting his property which is always a controversial topic, but I couldn't stand the gratuitous violence, sexually explicit scenes and shocking language throughout this book. The story takes a little while to get going but once the dynamics have been established it helps make the final third much more impactful.

Esperava-se, inclusive, que a ascensão de Jimmy e a queda de Freddie levariam a um clímax de violência e tensão da narrativa, mas o encontro decisivo entre os dois ficou devendo. She welcomes the distraction from her home life with former gangster, Patrick Kelly, whose long lost son has turned up out of the blue, bringing trouble with him.

Despite this, the book was a raucous romp into an exciting world -- not one I would ever wish to be a part of personally, but certainly one entertaining enough to visit.I never once remembered getting intrigued, excited, or any positive emotion wash over me while reading this book and thus I was halfway through it, I decided that I've had enough. While the world they live in has a strong moral code - loyalty - care for families - honesty in dealings with superiors (not the general public), retribution is swift and violent. You’re left in awe of the power of Cole’s scenes as the flawed characters make their way through the story, causing unending debris in their wake. Martina Coles books are all pretty similar - drugs, prostitution, violence, poverty; they are all gritty and hard hitting and this one was no different however they have enough differences to all be enjoyable.

The Take by Martina Cole | Goodreads The Take by Martina Cole | Goodreads

I suppose that if you are a mother, reading this book, then you will sympathise with Jeanie, the matriarch who, against all the odds, brings up a half-decent family. This is a nasty, crude tale, not to be read if you don't like books with bad language, violence, perversion and sex. Paulie was clever enough to know the kind of girls who would make him money: not too good looking but not dogs either - that was alright on the kerb, but not in the comfortable surroundings of a parlour. Com este "A firma" já são três os livros que li da autora, aqui no blogue tenho publicada a opinião de "Os intocáveis" e li também "Ruas escuras". However, Martina Cole's writing makes it a page turner and it gripped me enough to stay with it until the end.Overall this feels like very lazy and careless writing by an author whose reputation has allowed her to stop caring about actual narrative or reality. It is believed that when the paths of both of them will cross, they will be a perfect match for each other and it is only a matter of time before this happens. The first MC book I read was The Ladykiller and I was gripped from start to finish, predictable in places but overall I enjoyed the read. Her novel The Take was made into a television serial starring Tom Hardy in the lead role as Freddie. I got slightly more in to it at the end and although I didn’t love this book I look forward to reading another Martina Cole soon.

Meanwhile, Eamonn leaves for America along with his father and after some time he becomes one of the deadliest villains of New York.

Three of Cole's novels have been adapted for the stage by the Theatre Royal, Stratford East, London: Two Women in 2010; The Graft in 2011, and Cole's first novel, Dangerous Lady in 2012. However, as it goes along it seems to take forever to get to the point, and for me it became pretty stale, to the point that even though the twist was pretty good it was watered down because of how long it took to get there. Prior to her literary success, Cole had a variety of low-paid jobs, including working as a cleaner, a wine waitress, an agency nurse and a supermarket shelf-stacker. Despite my getting used to the writing style, I still think that my inability to really mesh with it prevented the story from eliciting emotion from me in some pivotal moments.
