About this deal

In a moment of national crisis, the Orb from the Crown Jewels has been stolen and the children are set the task of writing a report about the Crown Jewels.

But when Bess's older brother Will comes, it becomes hard to do that, and one day he finds his fishing rod tangled and messy in the state Walter left it after fishing. After getting a glimpse of life in Christmastown, however, he schemes to kidnap Santa Claus and celebrate a very different Christmas. Sir Walter Raleigh, who laid his cloak over a puddle so Queen Elizabeth I could cross, meets up with his friend and long lost cousin: Bess Throckmorton. How's she going to explain him to her family, especially when he breaks her brother's fishing rod, steals a horse and smokes cigars in her room? Bess has always been known for making up stories - so perhaps Sir Walter was also imaginary, but the reader knows better. He comes back home with her and then news spreads that the golden orb has been stolen from the Tower of London and it was Sir Walter! A hilarious tale of history come to life, from former children’s laureate and master storyteller, Michael Morpurgo.

Told in the voice of Private Tommo Peaceful, the story follows twenty-four hours at the front, and captures his memories of his family and his village life - by no means as tranquil as it appeared. My favourite character was Walter and I recommend it to anyone interested in Tudor history and a good mystery novel. To access your ebook(s) after purchasing, you can download the free Glose app or read instantly on your browser by logging into Glose. Newlyweds are killed suddenly and don't realize it until a city family moves in and redecorates their beloved New England country house.

The narrative is consistently told from Bess's point of view which helps the reader to relate to her as the central character. My Friend Walter by Michael Morpurgo is an amazing KS2 story to cover whilst covering a Tudor England topic. but in the middle of the book from my point of view I began to dislike to the point I couldn't read it at certain times because I didn't want to have any nightmares but apart from that is was an amazing book to read and I really enjoyed it especially the beginning and th end.
