About this deal

I’d like to see this design scaled down to smaller sizes as looks like its really well thought out and I like the design language.

Normally I’d throw the slack into the PSU chamber at the bottom, but it’s at the top in this case and that’s too much of a detour, so you’ll have to spend more time than I did if you want things to look tidy – and you’ll want to because the side panel, also on the cable management side, is made of glass. But if you are going for that “Economical” look without ARGB then you can still achieve that nice clean-cut look with the Fractal Design Torrent Case. However, as we’ll see in the next section where we test thermals, there really is no reason to ever run the case’s fans at this high speed –it’s likely topping them out at 1000 RPM for the 140mm fans and 800 RPM for the 180mm spinners is all anybody will ever need.Firstly, this is just one chart of many tests, so this isnt the "be all end all" for the case being "Bad GPU temps". It seems appropriate to plug the AIO fan into the AIO fan header of your MoBo but there is a single AIO cable to manage both the pump and the radiator fans, I think Arctic (AIO builder) recommends using the CPU fan header. For the CPU and GPU full load acoustic test we add the Nvidia RTX 2070 Super FE at 75% fan speed, because in practice it never runs at 100 percent and is far too loud when it does. But both of those cases were slightly non-standard, featuring either rotated or inverted motherboard layouts.

Torrent — Fractal Design

The new Compact model, as its name implies, squishes things down a bit, but not by a massive amount. But it’s nice to see some creativity once in a while, which we get with the Fractal Torrent Compact. However there's still a bit more obstructions around the GPU and the bottom fans are not the best static pressure, so removing an additional above, and 1-2 below PCI Express metal brackets would probably equalize the case with the others. It does mean that your PSU will intake warmer air from your system, but with a high-airflow design like this I doubt that is an issue. But there have been exceptions, with a number of open-front – often marketed as “high airflow” – designs introduced from major players in recent years.

The chassis also offers ample room for adding large air coolers and graphics cards and plenty of storage devices. Because the graphics card we’re using is long, a clean, swooping air path is interrupted due to the slim distance between the front fan and GPU. Using a high-powered (literally) test system consisting of an Intel Z590 motherboard / Intel Core i9-11900K combo, along with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Founders Edition graphics card, I set to work testing out thermal performance of this high-airflow case design. One section is where the PSU is being mounted and the other could be used for tubing for cooling or routing cables. I do know that if such a thing were a building an aluminum panel vs plastic covered steel would be considered immense.

I’m quite interested in how this will work with the large front intake, particularly as there is no significant top exhaust beyond whatever warm air passes through the PSU, so hot air will be forced out of the rear of the case. We received the RGB version of the case, and the fan hub these all connect to is for just that: fans. Special attention must be paid to the bottom of the case; normally an afterthought in my assessment of cases, I was immediately struck by the bottom of the Torrent. There is a lavishly big cutout in the motherboard tray to give easy access to the reverse side of the CPU cooler’s mounting mechanism. Cable management in the Torrent Compact made me realize something: The 24-pin motherboard power cable needs to go on a diet. There are sufficient openings around the motherboard tray for tidy cable routing, and the larger openings have rubber grommets. These intake fans are two of Fractal’s Prisma AL-18 ARGB PWM model, and the 140 mm counterpart – Prisma AL-14 ARGB PWM – lines the case floor. The ARGB factor of the case by itself would be nonexistent if not for the top left ARGB bar on the side of the tempered glass.
