About this deal

While Mr Perkins used the pseudonym Ben Foster for the book, which was written by a ghost writer, he has today decided to reveal his true identity in the hope of gaining more local support. He takes a few classes in yoga massage and he is turned from Ben Foster - nice guy, but ordinary guy, with unexciting job, and nice wife – into “Big Ben”, world-class stud, mingling (and more) with A-listers. This is a classic fairy-tale that happens to be real. It’s probably every man’s dream, at one time or another. One of his regular clients was a rich man, and Ben would see him once a week in his state. The guy wasn’t very friendly and looked down upon Ben, but one day there was a group of rich and powerful ladies visiting the client’s mother and they all took interest in the dark-haired, blue-eyed masseuse. Working double shifts for minimum wage at a care home for boys with learning disabilities, Ben Foster and his young family are ground down by poverty and debt. Until the day he met “The Committee” in the Great Room at a large manor house, Ben had been an average guy. He was a worker- a fisherman, a road paver, a carer. But when he marries and has children he realizes that he wants the best for them. He gets his masseuse certification and his life changes.

There are other points where it's hard to accept the story at surface value: that Ben has sex with around 2000 women in two years, including periods where he's servicing up to five women a day (he's in his thirties, and has what he describes as a physically tiring job as a masseur, as well as a family life - come on!); that his wife never really queries his sudden influx of designer suits, new cars, weekends away, even newly shaved genitals (and saying that they only have vanilla sex in the dark really doesn't explain the latter). Second, I was rather amazed how easy it was for this guy to get so wrapped up in wealth and forget his kids like he did. I’ve seen a lot of cheating losers in this world, but he’s a father as well. I’m sure he justified his being gone constantly, his wife putting the kids to bed alone and keeping the house up while working at a laundry mat herself. It was about money and moving his family up to a life they’d only dreamed. With his new clients, money and expensive presents aren’t the only thing to threaten Ben’s integrity: obviously the rich clients expect sex in addition to the massages Ben signed up to give them.Going from being loving husband and father of three to a man that should have been ashamed to call himself a husband and father. Through my eyes, his wife must have known Ben was up to no-good, but I doubted she ever thought he was a gigolo based on the amount of sex they seemed to have. A reader can see that he was being used, even if he did get paid well for services provided, to them he was disposable, a replacement was highly likely at any moment for his bunch of fake friends. Going from a low-paid job looking after boys that really needed his attention, with his spare time devoted to massage.

When he inherits a sizeable windfall from his gran, Ben decides to qualify as a masseur. Soon he is introduced to the mysterious ‘committee’ – a group of female socialites with one thing in common: they adore sex and don’t mind paying for it. Details about his encounters are covered in his book 'Gigolo: Inside The Secret World of the Super Rich', which is up for a People's Book Prize. I don’t read soft porn, especially from a man’s point of view. There is plenty of flesh and genitals in this book- horrifying and interesting, all at the same time. Ben was a nice man, doing for others, getting by week-to-week, trying to improve his and his families lifestyle, he got caught up in all the glitz and glamour -the façade- the easy money. It seems like it took him a while to see behind the masks, but he got there. This was an excellent account of a reverse Cinderella story. A young man with a wife and three children becomes a masseuse. His talents lead him into the world of the rich and famous. His extra services net him enough to give his family comfort for a time.

Buying options for Gigolo: Inside the Secret World of the Super Rich

Ben Foster was an average man, working an average job as a support worker, trying desperately to make ends meet, with a dream to emigrate to Canada. He was also a qualified masseur but with only one client, the dream was just that! Until one visit he met the mother of his client, a high class lady with lots of clout, his world changed drastically. At one level, this is like the Kama Sutra and The Joy of Sex all rolled into one. Or, as Foster/Thurlow say, My Fair Lady in reverse: Ben is given a makeover by Vivienne - and a slew of gorgeous, rich, and amazingly raunchy women. They shower him with sex and money. Possibly even happiness. Again another stark contrast with the loving but plain sex life Ben shares with his inexperienced wife. Money is something we all need, so he massaged and sold his body -well parts of his body- to an upper-class of superficial elites plus thousands more, went home and lied to his family about how a masseuse got so highly paid, and excuses of being on-call 24/7. Vivienne was my favourite character from the book. She really stood out for me, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about her antics with Ben.
