About this deal

I'm a bit disappointed with the ending, I felt it was a bit rushed as most of the book was relatively slow paced. There are various strands to the story and at first I couldn’t understand how they connected to the house. There are some disturbing themes here too, no spoilers but what kept my interest was how these threads would come together and what the impact would be on our two main characters. A truly unique reading experience with some fantastic twists that had me up late finishing!!! See my full review on my blog! The spooky is quite spooky. The explanation isn't too far fetched and I really liked that it didn't overshadow anything. Yes, the House is a character and plays a pivotal role in the plot, but the focus stayed on Delilah and Gavin. House had protected him through winter storms and lonely days. It had fed him and clothed him and been everything he’d always needed it to be. Until Delilah.”

There also were some things that I wasn't comfortable with like drug use and mental abuse, but I continued to read because I had to find out what the story was with the house. There's also a romance in the book which I absolutely ADORED. Gavin and Delilah? They're so, so sweet and even though some might say it's insta-lovish, I actually don't think so. They're teenagers being in love and experiencing everything for the first time. And the fact that they already "knew" each other when they were younger just makes it work for me. I don't care if it's cheesy and maybe a little rushed, it's freaking adorable and I love both of them a lot! a b Fassler, Joe (October 12, 2017). "How Surrealism Enriches Storytelling About Women". The Atlantic . Retrieved August 15, 2019. By this point in the book, it seems that the others characters believe Eleanor is the cause of the disturbances. Fearing for her safety, Montague and Luke declare that she must leave. Eleanor, however, regards the house as her home and resists. Montague and Luke force her into her car; she bids them farewell and drives off, but before leaving the property grounds she propels the car into a large oak tree to her implied death. If you’re a romance reader looking for a really well-written Halloween read that’s scary (but not toooooo scary) and with a really swoony 'first love’ romance too, then try this!!This is the first book I have read by Simon Lelic and I'd happily read his work again, the new slant to the unique way he has written this book was quite daring but it worked and I would recommend this book as a really good physiological thriller. The New Neighbors (RENAMED “The House”) begins with a gothic feel. In fact, in the author’s notes he even says that he has always wanted to write a “ghost story” but once he began writing this, he ended up taking it in a different direction.

This is the first book I have read by author Simon Lelic but I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be looking out for more of his work to read. Blind Date with a Book” is a hand wrapped book, carefully curated from a wide range of popular genres that is tagged with intriguing clues alluding to the book inside. This curated collection includes everything from mystery, romance, classics, horror, adventure, science fiction to young adult. FYI...As far as the romance goes...or at least as far as the characters take things in their relationship this is getting an Older YA tag from me. So yes, it IS creepy and scary at times, but in an almost 'good' way if that makes sense? This is the way I like to be scared. It's not senselessly scary and there is a point to everything (like, you get explanations for how and why things came to be the way they were). It really worked for me!

The thing is, I’m yours. I don’t belong to anyone but you. I’m scared that you’ll never be mine the same way.” this was like that, but with seventeen-year-olds, and some mushy, gushy romance stuff. It wasn't half bad either...and I think that surprised me because I was hesitant to read it. Seriously, that's all you really need to know...I say read it, especially if you're in the mood for something different than your average ghost story. Also...if you've never seen Monster House...then you should, even if you don't have kids.

She considered opening her eyes and seeing what he looked like when he said these things to her, but before she had a chance, she felt the brush of his lips across hers, fingers wrapping around her waist, and a small, sharp bite to her bottom lip. The pain made her gasp and then immediately want another taste. The first was that Dahlilah comes off as a bit of a stalker towards Gavin. It's a pet peeve of mine when a female MC revolves all of her time pinning or obsessing over a guy. They move in but they cannot afford to immediately empty the house of all of its contents, so they settle for getting rid of the “stuffed birds” on display, and begin to explore the other rooms. In one, they discover some old music and they begin to sing and dance to the show tunes, having a good time.... The aftermath of these consequences are explored and whilst Simon Lelic handles each troubling subject matter with a grace and sensitivity, this could prove triggering for some readers. The moralistic ramifications are left for the reader to explore and it was interesting to see where my own feelings about the events that took place lay, and how my priorities had shifted over the course of my reading this. This is a domestic/psychological thriller, heavier on the domestic side which kind of threw me for a loop. The author says he was inspired by many horror writers and I can see the inspiration without feeling that he is ripping them off. I liked the supernatural elements that the author puts in at the beginning, that nagging feeling you have that something isn't right. Things are pretty far from alright.
