About this deal

Working in London now, he spends much of his time going to and from Oxford where he lives and continues to work on his writing to this day, as he builds up his extensive oeuvre of different franchises with their now much beloved protagonists. One of his assets, Dieter Hess has died of natural causes, but now Regent’s Park has uncovered a bank account that no one knows about, and that needs a closer look. Eventually, Bachelor finds a hand-written coded list that might offer a clue as to what Hess was up to, and whether he was a double agent. Nothing is more exciting than grabbing a cup of hot coffee and getting into the thrilling and mysterious world of crime novels. The tension, the thrill, and the payoff at the end give the readers a memorable experience. Old spooks carry the memory of tradecraft in their bones, and when Solomon Dortmund sees an envelope being passed from o... Ah yes, and that I am doing, but unfortunately not enough e-copies at the library, so have ended up in the most recent book (Bad Actors). Guess I will have to wait for Joe Country (suspecting that is the needed volume) to become available.

Slough House is about the place where failed MI5 agents are sent as a “punishment.” Any agent that fails to deliver the mission or comes out as unreliable in any situation is sent to the Slough House. These agents are called “slow horses” in a derogatory manner. It is pretty shameful for an agent of the elite MI5 to end up in the Slough house. Some fantastic dialogue and a few turns of phrase that gave me pause……She laughed what sounded like a smoker’s laugh. Last time he’d heard anything quite like it, he’d been sanding off the edge of a door……another………”Coe’s still slimy with afterbirth, so you can’t blame him for being ignorant…”

Publication Order of Slough House Books

Herron's short stories have been regularly published in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and some are collected in the book, All the Livelong Day, published in 2013. If writing brilliant crime thrillers/mystery novels were painting, then Mike Herron would be Picasso. Herron was born in England and got into literature and publishing very late. His first book, Down Cemetery Road, was published in 2003, and has published more novels ever since. There are several novellas that introduce new characters and expand the Slough House world. They’re worth reading in sequence. He takes a few hostages with him, and while it may seem that this is another hostage-situation-type story, it is not. The story takes an exciting turn when it is revealed that the gunman has a purpose behind doing all this.

If you read one spy novel this year, read Real Tigers". Spectator.co.uk . Retrieved 18 December 2016. Living and working, he is always kept busy working on his next novel, or building his next franchise, as his short stories continue to get published in the Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine publication. Creating a brand for himself, he’s managed to set his material apart from the rest in what is already a fairly crowded genre. Known for his unique take on the thriller novel, he’s managed to carve himself a niche within the field of crime literature, providing his work with a sense of humor that manages to lighten the narrative somewhat. That’s not to say it detracts from the darker elements though, as he’s definitely not averse to showing the grim realities of crime, as he’s well known for suspense and intrigues too. The central conceit of the books is that MI5, like any large organisation, needs somewhere to place its most hopeless employees, and this place is Slough House, a building just around the corner from the Barbican Centre. They’re not allowed anywhere near MI5 HQ, which is referred to as Regent’s Park although the organisation is no longer based there.

Funny, clever . . . Genuinely thrilling. The novel is equally noteworthy for its often lyrical prose.” First Slow Horse book, after reading quite a few chapters, i could not get Into. Hoped my favorite character would return. (Had to listen 4-5 times to audiobook last chapters of novel previous to this one. Still in disbelief.) Love Heron’s London, his wit, capability with language and how skillfully characters and plots are crafted. Still, I am broken-hearted and may not be able to finish Bad Actors. Slow Horse and Dead Lions were previously enjoyed. Real Tigers and Spook Street wait for me. Oh and a couple of his standalone books and his Zoe Boehm series also.
