badjulio @GarminFitness I don’t know how I used to run in WORSE every year when I lived in FL. This summer was my first up north and it’s bad. Taking your TV offline and using a streaming device for apps is a good way to get around this, but since some TVs use an internet connection to update the listings in their electronic programme guide it's not always a perfect solution. Apps are updated regularly and sometimes that means they'll stop being compatible with the hardware in your TV. This is far more likely to happen if you've got an older set. Just because an updated app can continue working on a TV doesn't mean it should.

Although far from ideal, a TV losing access to an app doesn't necessarily mean you won't be able to watch it until you upgrade your set. I got the solar version a couple of weeks ago, very impressive except the watch face freezes randomly, a simple button press readjusts the time lag but still annoying. Seems to be a ‘known issue’ judging by some forums. The prospect of buying a new TV when it's essentially still working is a bitter pill to swallow and if you're otherwise happy with your TV then we wouldn't recommend replacing it so you can access your favourite apps again. Apps get more demanding of the TV hardware, which can result in them being extremely sluggish. The app or TV manufacturer may prefer to remove the app entirely rather than have such a poor experience for the user. Maintenance costsFinally, all of today's announcements are only possible due to the additional 'fiscal headroom' - extra funds found from taxation or spending decisions. And although there is good news for the government, as UCL Policy Lab Honorary Professor Chris Giles made clear most of these additional savings are down to public spending not keeping up with inflation.
