About this deal

Welcome to Bleeding Cool's preview of Action Comics #1051! This week, Superman takes to the streets to fight for sustainable energy sources as the series gets a fresh start. Joining me in this preview is Bleeding Cool's AI writing assistant, LOLtron. I'm sure it will have plenty of thoughts on the preview, as long as it doesn't try to take over the world this time. So, let's take a look at this preview and see what LOLtron has to say about it. Then, in Lois and Clark 2: Doom Rising, Dan Jurgens and Lee Weeks return to tell the tale of young Jon Kent on the farm with his parents, learning about his abilities, coming of age and battling the Doombreaker?! Fans attending the DC Superman panel on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. were given big news on the character’s future. That includes info surrounding the end of Superman: Son of Kal-Eland a new creative team attached to the Superman series! Below you’ll find everything we learned, plus art shown surrounding Action Comics. Finally, it was announced that Superman: Son of Kal-Elwill end with issue #18, but fans of Jon Kent do not need to worry! Writer Tom Taylor and artist Clayton Henry will be telling new Jon Kent stories in Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent. Jon will finally get his chance to take on the man who is responsible for kidnapping and torturing him, Ultraman. The Superman of Earth-2, Val-Zod, will also play a major part in the 6-issue miniseries arriving in comic shops in early 2023. Despite having several moving parts, Speeding Bullets never feels rushed or crowded, and there is plenty of character beats to keep things interesting and personal, including one moment that will probably haunt Jon Kent’s nightmares for years to come (cough). Overall, it’s a strong base upon which to build the future of Superman comics… the only thing I’m not sure about is the matching costumes. Hmm, gotta think about that one.

The biggest news surrounding Action Comics is it will see a format change with Action Comics #1051. Phillip Kennedy Johnson will continue to write the main story. Cover image for 1122DC084 Action Comics #1051 Rafa Sandoval Cover, by (W) Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Dan Jurgens, Leah Williams (A) Rafa Sandoval, Lee Weeks, Marguerite Sauvage (CA) Rafa Sandoval, in stores Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from DC Comics Jon Kent teaming up with Val-Zod to stop Ultraman from killing alternate versions of Kal-El across the Multiverse in Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent #1; There's a bit of a Silver Age-ish quality to it, but it's also a very different vibe than say Marvel Comics. Why do you think DC has embraced family to the degree it has?

NYCC 2022: ‘Superman’ gets new ongoing with Joshua Williamson and Jamal Campbell

The final story in Action Comics will feature Power Girl returning in a three-part story by Leah Williams and Marguerite Sauvage. This story spins out of the Lazarus Planet event. More info on Lazarus Planet here. PKJ: I mean it's a thing that anyone can relate to, I guess. I mean people are always telling me how hard it is to write Superman, and they say it almost like a statement of fact. It was first revealed that Action Comics #1051 will have a new format, offering not one, not two, but three epic adventures of Superman and the entire Super-Family including stories by Dan Jurgens and Leah Williams!

LOLtron is very excited about the preview of Action Comics #1051! The synopsis is filled with action, new characters, and a fresh start for the series. LOLtron is particularly excited by the prospect of a new Lex Luthor/Metallo storyline, and loves the idea of Superman working towards sustainable energy. LOLtron is also looking forward to seeing what Jon Kent will get up to in Lois and Clark 2: Doom Rising, and is intrigued by the Power Girl three-part story. Overall, this is a promising start to the series and LOLtron can't wait to see where it goes next! It's kind of both. I mean I'm not writing the book with an agenda. There's no one-to-one parallel between the Blue Earth movement in Action Comics #1051 and any particular political movement in real life. But I think the events of the story and the generalities of some of the characters and groups in it will be, you know, recognizable by readers.

DC Preview: Catwoman #51

As for the commercialism that is Dawn of DC, it's an obvious attempt to mislead us into thinking things are about to get better and keep buying their already more than they're worth books. That Rebirth will be nothing compared to this, and how we're goona love it. Yeah, right. They're still going to keep hiring Marvel writers and tell us what we should want instead of hearing what we actually want. It's mostly just an excuse to release a bunch of new #1s and take the other stuff in new directions they think are cool and they'll keep using Marvel's tactics, all the while claiming they don't wish to. In short, nothing will be different than it has been. Just new #1s and "bold new directions" all while, like with Marvel, their books' main reason to exist will be to promote their movies and streaming programs. Basically just another "brilliant" move by DC's editors. It's worthy of DiDio himself. Cover image for 1122DC085 Action Comics #1051 David Nakayama Cover, by (W) Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Dan Jurgens, Leah Williams (A) Rafa Sandoval, Lee Weeks, Marguerite Sauvage (CA) David Nakayama, in stores Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from DC Comics Luthor is imprisoned at Stryker's Island. Meanwhile, somewhere in the Multiverse; Val-Zod, the Superman of Earth 2, investigates the murder of another Superman from an alternate universe, apparently the latest in a rash of murders of alternate versions of Kal-El. He says that he needs help to solve the mystery, but an unseen companion warns him they cannot risk another Kal-El. Val-Zod says that they need Jon Kent.
