Liver damage is possible in adults who have taken 10 grams or more of paracetamol. Ingestion of 5 grams or more of paracetamol may lead to liver damage if the patient has risk factors (see below). Lemsip cold & flu sachets contain two active ingredients, the painkiller paracetamol (650mg) and a decongestant called phenylephrine hydrochloride (10mg). The capsules shouldn't be given to children under 12 years of age. The hot drinks shouldn't be given to children under 16 years of age.

CYP Inhibitors: Caffeine undergoes extensive metabolism by hepatic microsomal cytochrome P450, factors known to alter the activity of this enzyme system may influence caffeine clearance. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine. Some cases of ischaemic colitis have been reported with pseudoephedrine. Pseudoephedrine should be discontinued, and medical advice sought if sudden abdominal pain, rectal bleeding or other symptoms of ischaemic colitis develop.
