About this deal

Even with the eventual outcome more than likely being a happy ending, the characters (and reader) are put through the wringer and it might be the isolation talking but it really moved me. Up through volume 5, Yuu really had been presented to the audience as aromantic/asexual, and her friendship with Maki who is also aromantic/asexual provided nice moments of pseudo exposition on it for the audience.

I feel that door was closed for Yuu earlier than this, but the whole sequence is definitely important for her as a character. If Bloom Into You were a movie, this would be the part of the movie where, instead of hastening towards the climax, as American movies do, the characters would spend the next half hour moping, then run halfway across town to finally see each other, but Bloom Into You isn’t a movie, so while Touko and Yuu do exactly as described above, there is a different person for us to follow while they mope.In another part of the flashback, Miyako assumes that Hakozaki was only drunk and wasn't really interested in women and avoids her. But Yuu is so out of her element, having new feelings, trying to express them, only to be turned down, that she can't even see past her own nose. It's still an imperfect series in a lot of ways, but it is also a crucial series in the way Yuu and Maki provide media representation of aromantic/asexual people. One of my favorite scenes was early on when Touko tries to strike up a conversation with Yuu, but Yuu wants nothing to do with her.

Also, since we've been talking about quality depictions of teenagers, I know that Touko has sexual desire for Yuu, that's been clear throughout the series. Yuu has always loved shoujo manga and fantasizes about the day that, she, too, will get a love confession that will send her heart a-flutter.I'm so sad the final volume is fast approaching, but I have ADORED this series and am so curious to see how it ends. Miyako takes Sayaka on a reconnaissance mission and for the first time, Sayaka gets to talk to someone like her, and see what life can become. Ah, so when you mean yes, no, depends, you mean in regards to whether or not yuri has themes of purity?
