Kevin’s brother, also a police detective, convinced Kevin to investigate a missing person’s case out of town. It seems while Amy is there visiting the old abandoned lighthouse once again streams it's powerful beacon. The Lighthouse by Christopher Parker is one such book that is comparable to the same feeling of utter speechlessness. Separated by hundreds of miles, yet drawn to each other by forces they can’t understand, Amy and Ryan spend a magical day together and quickly forge a deep connection. From classic rarities to contemporary releases, spanning Aden to Zululand via Gold Coast and Great Britain, there's everything from the ubiquitous to the unique.

The midsection of the book is devoted to fantasy/magic realism of sorts with a new theory thrown in. By 80% of the way through the book we were heading for the “and then she woke up and it was all a dream” territory and I started to feel … disappointed? I would like to thank the author and publishing team for bringing us such an enchanting tale that will blow your mind. Due to this aspect of the writing and the softer romance aspects, I would classify this book as more of a YA work and not so much as an adult book as it was marketed under, so having this expectation in mind while reading it might lead the reader to have a more positive experience and not be taken by surprise because of it.Shortly after their arrival, Amy went for a short walk and discovered the Lighthouse that was a landmark in this town. As a consequence I didn’t enjoy it so much and whilst I did really like the way that the book veered away from a “happy ever after” ending, it left me feeling flat. Distraught at the state of Amy’s health, Kevin undertakes a missing person’s case in the distant town of Seabrook in the hopes that a change in scenery may lift Amy’s spirits, and hopefully bring he and Amy closer. She always had an interest in folklore, fairy tales, and the macabre, which has definitely influenced her work. It has consumed all of me in the most wonderful and delightful ways a person could feel (I have never ever used the word delightful so……that speaks volumes (no pun intended……until I decided to leave said pun alone.

It’s a long process and so to keep sane I tried not to fixate on reaching ‘the end’, and I didn’t set myself writing targets or word count goals either.

Originating from a short story he created as a child, the result of Parker’s decade long mission to produce the book has come to fruition. Ultimately the book explores grief, and how different people cope with it, along with dealing with the aftermath of bad decisions. Being able to construct a town from scratch, invent the geography, the buildings, the people, and come up with a myth surrounding its lighthouse was probably the easiest and most enjoyable part of the whole writing experience. I didn’t even want to read a book that was full of the magic and enchantment that’s in here, but I did and everything I’ve written here is exactly the intensity of emotions I feel.

Christopher Parker’s debut work is all heart with a subject that is relatable to many that of loss and unconditional love.

The loss has left the eighteen-year-old heartbroken, and she doesn’t know if her world will ever be whole again.
