About this deal

Porque apesar de o livro ter uma história que agarra desde do princípio, existiram muitos momentos parados e que de certo modo quebravam o ritmo da leitura. I finished it just before the conference, and was fascinated to hear some of the stories behind the writing of this book afterwards, which would never have been apparent from the finished product. It hit me right at end, there were little bits throughout the book that my mind thought was weird or out of place and all questions that I'd had were then answered towards the end when all the dot-to-dots were completed.

Frustration aside, I enjoyed the dual narrative as it gives the reader a wider perspective on events, both past and present. I have been in love with Dorothy Koomson’s writing since the very first book of hers that I picked up more than ten years ago. I took up various temping jobs and eventually got my big break writing, editing and subbing for various women's magazines and national papers. I’m writing this review from a very interesting place today, because I have just come away from a weekend spent at the Romantic Novelists’ Association conference in Lancaster where one of the highlights of the weekend for me was listening to Dorothy Koomson in conversation about her writing with RNA Chair, Alison May. Her sister has also been impacted in a way that has left her with mental health issues and her parents lives were turned upside down.I just kept thinking of the dead woman washed up on the beach in Brighton, remembering her curly afro and tattooes. As she steps up her investigations and starts edging towards the truth, she finds herself and those around her in increasing danger.

Having now read several Dorothy Koomson novels I am in admiration of her tightly plotted, compassionate and intelligent brand of women’s fiction. At first glance, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this book is a standard crime thriller, it’s not. This brilliantly written book has put Dorothy Koomson firmly onto my radar and I very much look forward to reading some of her other work.Quando, finalmente, tudo é revelado, não sei, mas houve ali uma nota que não consigo precisar e que me soou muito off. Her insight in the human psyche and the way in which judgements can be altered so quickly is excellently done. Dorothy Koomson is the award-winning author of 14 novels and has been making up stories since she was 13 when she used to share her stories with her convent school friends. I honestly hate writing bad reviews but I could only manage to get about a third of the way through this book so I think that warrants writing done my thoughts.
