About this deal

It’s understandable that Shou Harusono would want to make these two protagonists very different from her main pair but she’s set herself a difficult task. Kagiura is straightforward and honest to a fault, often causing him to be the butt of gentle teasing and jokes from his seniors. Hirano to Kagiura manga summary: Hirano, a second-year in high school, lives in a dormitory on his campus and has recently become roommates with Kagiura, a first year.

His family is very close, and he hopes to have a best friendship-like marriage just like his parents. And I think that’s pretty important to establish early on in romances where a big part of the dynamic is character A is taking care of character B far more than character B is taking care of character A.Kagi’s signature pouting face when he doesn’t get what he wants can be seen as cute or as merely immature. First he wanted to make things easier for Kagiura by giving up on rooming together, but after seeing how serious he is about staying together, he started to help him study instead. But after he'sleft in the tender care of hismother hen of a roommate, Hirano, it'stoo much to ask for Kagiura not to fall inlove.

I was expecting this short to serve as an introduction to the relationship between Hirano and Kagiura seen in the manga series of the same name, since anime-only viewers do not know much about these characters, particularly Kagiura. But Hirano isn’t reacting, even when Kagi holds his hands…So when Niibashi suggests he stop acting like a kid by getting woken up each morning and instead do something nice for Hirano, Kagi embraces the idea with open arms. Well yes, because Kagiura is ready to read anything into the slightest sign that Hirano’s defences might be beginning to crack. There are four colour pages at the front, reminding us how consistently good the mangaka is with colour work; the subtle shades of magenta on the cover reinforce this impression, As with all the other volumes, Leighann Harvey brings us a very readable version but this time, there’s no translation notes, although there is a brief afterword from the mangaka. Kagiura used to be anxious about his future dormitory life, but thanks to his energetic senior looking out for him, he has come to feel content and at ease. In the six months they have left as roommates, Kagiura is determined to put a name to the relationship he cherishes so dearly before it comes to an end.

Leighann Harvey again delivers a very readable translation of a text that’s almost exclusively the day-to-day banter of high school boys. The diligent high school freshman Akira Kagiura and his senior Taiga Hirano have been roommates for half a year. This doesn’t translate well, but Kagiura has a habit of accidentally speaking casually to Hirano when he should be using polite speech with his senpai. Due soon (in February 2023) is Hirano and Kagiura the novel (which originally came out a year before the manga in 2018), also licensed by Yen Press for their Yen On list, and there are three more volumes out in Japan of this ongoing manga series (the afterword refers to a hiatus but that was in 2019). He thinks about why he's so sweet to Kagiura, and comes to the conclusion that while he originally intended to be kind to his roommate just so he could have a comfortable dorm life, Kagiura's honest and happy reactions made Hirano want to spoil him more and more. I get up to date 5 minutes ago and I just found that the manga will have a delay of 3 months and I'm in tears.
