UNTIL last night, Santa’s Rooftop Scramble ranked incredibly low on my list of family pastimes, writes Andy Simms. My family and I played this board game on a horrible cold Autumn night – would have been so much better if it had been snowing outside and we were playing in front of an open fire! Nevertheless we had a really fun time playing this! IDEAL AS A GIFT FOR CHILDREN: Great as a birthday present or Christmas gift and suitable for 1+ players aged 5 and over, boys and girls will love to play with this exciting board game. No batteries required Yes, yes I am mentioning the C word again, but this time it is to tell you all about a lovely game from Ravensburger called Santa’s Rooftop Scramble. We are starting to think about Christmas in this house (rather reluctantly) and we have even been making wrapping paper today, so the children were quite happy to put this new game through its paces and see what it is all about. This poor run of form looked set to continue when, having been persuaded to return to the board, the elves took an eternity to load my sleigh and I routinely overshot my stops. LEARNING TOY: This educational toy is great for developing dexterity and hand-eye coordination within children. I was really impressed with the simplicity of this game, yet we all had so much fun playing it. It’s sure to be one of those games that come out Christmas after Christmas and creates another family tradition! SOLO PLAY AND FAMILY FUN: Encourage independent play by setting yourself new challenges to achieve a clear run and set a time, or take on family and friends. Fastest player wins! The board itself is beautifully illustrated and a lot of attention has gone into the aerial view of the rooftops and scenery. My 7 year old daughter read out the instructions with ease and within only a few minutes the board game was set up and ready to use. Everyone liked the game and it has certainly got everyone thinking about Christmas. This is a perfect family game for the Christmas season. Yes, it is a seasonal game but that is not a bad thing. We have books and decorations that we all love getting out at Christmas time and this would be exactly the same. My previous two attempts at filling the considerable boots of Saint Nicholas and delivering presents to a list of expectant children had been frustrating to say the least; ending in abject failure and cross words from this competitive dad. The children all enjoyed the game and it will be a great one to bring out again each year around this time of year. It’s an ideal game for the whole family to play together and enjoy some quality time in the festive season. This is a really fun game. The suggested age of the game is 5 – 99 and really anyone could play and enjoy this game, the surprise element of the board game itself means that anyone can win and this is very useful when you have a range of different ages playing at the same time. The game is recommended for age 5+ but we found that with parents joining in too, our whole family was able to play and enjoy the game even Mr R who is a couple of years under the recommended age. The aim of the game is to be the Santa that delivers all your presents fastest and there is plenty of action in the game to keep everyone entertained. A great family festive fun game. We really loved it and it will be on our list of things to do on the run up to Christmas day, that’s for sure.
The game should last between 15-30 minutes. For us with 5 players and younger children joining in who needed a little more explaining it was definitely more like 30 than 15 minutes. Licensed to Ravensburger this fun-filled board game is full of the excitement of Christmas! Players take on the role of Santa and have to deliver the right presents to the right houses. The first player to deliver everything on their list wins the game. With simple to follow rules, this game is suitable for 2-6 players, aged 5 years upwards. Each player takes on the role of Santa and the aim is to deliver all the presents to all the houses – but first you must read all the letters, make a list and then collect the presents from the workshop! Beware of those ‘late letters’ and even those extra presents to add to your own pile!
