About this deal

Its octacore chips are paired with 8GB of RAM (12GB in the Ultimate Performance Edition) to provide plenty of grunt. In fact, with a Geekbench multi-score of 11,002, it's the fastest Android phone we've ever tested, though the Exynos chip scored a slightly lower 10,385 and the camera app seems a tad slower. There are premium flagship phones which aren't as eye-wateringly expensive as the Fold, including the Samsung Galaxy S20, Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and LG V50 ThinQ 5G.

The main draw for us is the 93.1% screen-to-body ratio that fits more pixels across a tighter body. Samsung's new Infinity-O display avoids using a notch by opting for a laser-cut hole in the top-right corner for the front camera. Video options and quality are all excellent, better than Apple's iPhones. The rear camera can record 4K video at 60 frames per second; the front camera can do it at 30. You can record in hyperlapse, regular speed, slow-mo, or up to 960fps super-slow-mo (that last one for 0.4 seconds). You can get your video stabilized or super-stabilized. And all that comes through in HDR10+. Of course, you can also choose between three lenses to frame your scenes. It's the widest variety of options I've seen on a video-recording phone in the US. The S10 5G’s only real downside is overall stamina. Despite the larger battery, the S10 5G didn’t do quite so well as the S10 Plus in our in-house battery rundown test, managing 20hrs and 40mins on a single charge. All things considered, that’s still a very good result, it’s just that the added Exynos 5100 modem clearly has a negative effect on overall battery life even when not in use. Samsung Galaxy S10 5G review: VerdictEE's 5G cities so far are: London, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Birmingham, Belfast, Manchester, Cardiff, Bath, Bristol, Chelmsford, Coventry, Leicester, Liverpool, Oxford, Plymouth, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Lichfield, Lisburn, Newcastle, Nottingham, Salford, Sheffield, Stirling Sunderland, Wakefield and Wolverhampton. Despite these newer handsets, the S10 Plus is best Samsung phone, if you can handle the price and size. We experienced some failures due it incorrect placement at first, and with no physical ridge to guide our finger we don't expect to eliminate failures completely. In time, we went from a first-time recognition success rate of 80% to a 95% success rate. Some of that was an update and some of it came down to getting used to the invisible sensor location.

There's a single model of the Galaxy S10+ for all four US carriers, so it can easily be moved between them. The Qualcomm X24 modem inside supports all of the 4G bands used in the US, and many foreign ones. It has voice-over-LTE, voice-over-Wi-Fi, and the best possible voice codec for excellent call quality. Earpiece and speaker quality are impeccable. But that's all true about the S9 as well. The X24's advantage over last year's X20 modem is in going from 5x to 7x carrier aggregation, but no US wireless carrier does 7x carrier aggregation. Battery is definitely one reason to choose the bigger S10+ over the smaller devices, as the other S10 models have 3,400mAh (S10) and 3,100mAh (S10e) cells. Predictably, the results are fantastic. Colour rendition is practically perfect and the cameras manage to strike the right balance of noise suppression and detail capture. Video is also top-notch with buttery-smooth 4K resolution capture at 60fps. The S10 Plus release date was March 8 2019, and it cost more than its predecessor at launch, the S9 Plus, although you can now find both phones on sale for a bit cheaper now that its successor has debuted. While top speeds of over 1Gbps are quoted, in reality we've seen speeds more consistently around the 200-400Mbps threshold - still comfortably faster than average 4G speeds.

With a bigger screen, six cameras and a larger battery, it’s not all about faster mobile data speeds with the Galaxy S10 5G

Samsung comes very close to matching the iPhone XS score of 11,481 – outright speed has long been one advantage Apple has held over its chief rival. And storage makes the S10 Plus a wholly better value, starting at a healthy 128GB, of which around 110GB is actually available to you out of the box. If that’s not enough space, there’s a microSD slot which supports cards up to 1TB in size, or the 512GB and 1TB internal storage sizes – for an additional cost, of course. But I can't put this more kindly: Samsung's Bixby voice assistant needs to die. Google Assistant is firmly the superior voice assistant, and Bixby's ability to do things like control your phone's battery settings doesn't change the game. There's still a dedicated Bixby button on the left side of this phone, but at least you can remap it to almost anything —anything except Google Assistant, apparently, because Samsung is trying to make a point. The phone’s all-display front, which includes a dual-camera hole punch notch located at the top right of the screen, is also lovely. Our technical display tests recorded identical results to the regular S10 and S10 Plus – colour accuracy is almost as good as can be, with only slight oversaturation in some red tones, and the panel manages to cover 96.3% of the sRGB colour gamut. The default resolution is Full HD+, but you can crank it to QHD+ and it's pin sharp, with HDR10+ for superior contrast and color. That's an important perk if you’re a movie-watcher on your phone – an idea which isn’t so crazy its size. My real struggle here is between our labs-based testing and actually judging whether you should spend this much money on this device. Test-wise, everything works here. The Galaxy S10+ offers a top-of-the line, top-spec experience. I'm just torn on whether or not those specs matter enough to justify the price.

The Galaxy S10+ has a 6.4-inch, 3,040-by-1,440-pixel Dynamic AMOLED screen that's been rated as the best smartphone display available by Ray Soneira at DisplayMate Labs. According to Soneira's comprehensive tests, the screen is amazingly bright, colorful, and power-efficient, delivering the best handheld experience possible. Samsung's One UI over Android 9 defaults to giant, bubble-like icons on a four-by-five grid, which looks like it's been left in "easy mode." There are a lot of good options here for folks who like their icons or fonts large: You can use big icons, increase the font sizes, or zoom everything. But Android experts who want a grid tighter than five-by-six, especially on a screen this large, will have to go to an alternative launcher. Shot Suggestions hints at how to fix photos using the phone’s neural processing unit (NPU). We found its real-time tips on leveling shots and framing subjects helpful, with an on-screen reticle to properly center group shots. Sure, its suggestions are at times way off, but for the most part it’s a helpful addition to the camera UI. Samsung hasn’t showed favoritism here either: any Qi charging phone worked in our tests, including the iPhone XS Max. We used this feature more than we thought we might during our time at MWC 2019 – and we became quite popular. There's a fingerprint scanner located just about the home button. (Image Credit: TechRadar) In-screen fingerprint sensorLet's start by comparing it with the Galaxy S9+, which is about the same size as the S10+. Yes, the S10+ offers incremental improvements in the screen, battery life, modem, processor, and Wi-Fi performance. But I think you'll be just as happy with the S9+, because other than battery life, I wasn't able to find big differences in lived experiences, as opposed to lab testing. The Galaxy S10+ is the first US phone with an under-display, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. It's more accurate than the OnePlus 6T's optical sensor. With a dry finger, if you hit the screen at the right spot, I found it to be 100 percent accurate in testing. But that's the thing —you have to hit the screen at the exact right spot. Hitting it off-center results in rejected touches. There's no visual guideline to do so when the screen is off, and no physical guide (like the ridge of a physical sensor) at all. The sensor is less accurate with a wet finger, and not usable at all with a dirty or goopy finger. For more on this, see my separate story on testing the fingerprint sensor. The Galaxy S10+'s Vivid display mode is similar to the Note 9's Adaptive, and the Note 9's Cinema display mode seems a little more accurate than the S10+'s Natural. Both phones are a bit more color accurate than the iPhone XS Max with TrueTone on. Fingerprint Sensor Aside from the added 3D depth-sensing lens, the Galaxy S10 5G’s photographic capabilities also remain largely unchanged. The rear camera array is comprised of a 12-megapixel unit with dual-aperture (f/1.5 or f/2.4), a 12-megapixel, f/2.4 2x telephoto zoom camera and a new ultra-wide-angle 16-megapixel, f/2.2 camera. It's roughly the dimensions of the S9 Plus and feels better in-hand than the physically bigger Note 9, which has a 83.4% screen-to-body ratio. It's surprisingly easy to hold in the hand for a ‘Plus’-sized handset, though those with smaller palms will find the glass-and-metal finish offers little in the way of grip. We found ourselves using two hands, especially to type, and suggest a case before walking out of the store with this one.
