About this deal

It’s clear from your post that you want a GW-5000U, and I am a big proponent of getting what you want in life.

You see, I like flying under the radar as far as my watches are concerned. I have no need or want to own and show off the flashiest wrist candy available. My flashiest watch is a Mr Jones Watches Nuage, which is only so because it’s immediately apparent that it’s a watch that is not for telling time. That watch is also on my special list of four, at least until I get a chance to get out to Japan and shop for a vintage Seiko to replace it as my go-to “dress” watch. Another watch I already own that’s on the list is my Seiko Alpinist SARB017, my GADA three-hander. See a trend? I do. My core watches have been or are turning out to be relatively affordable, fun, and largely Japanese (though the Nuage employs a Swiss quartz engine). That won’t be the case for the final addition to the four, though that’s a topic for another article.

THE ORIGIN

It’s the same module (and display) as your 5610 tho, if you have the older non-U version there are some updates like LED light and I think the world time is different too…..the older ones only display 1 world time I think, whereas the new ones let you select five pre-sets to scroll through (instead of scrolling through alllll the time zones on the older one). Thanks for the replies, the colour scheme is certainly one of the nicest I’ve seen…I’m teetering on the edge…You owe it to yourself - it’s Christmas I feel there may shortly be a glut of second hand GW-5000s on SC. ;)Haha. Possibly, I will need to wait a while before I have access based on my post count over 5 years. I've had friends comment, ask if I got it at Walmart. I'd take it off, hand it to them and say "No, it had to be imported from Japan. Try it on!" Only to have them compliment the comfort and solid feel. I've converted a few.

You can post in Sales Corner if your post count is 250 or more and you have been registered as a member for 180 days or more. I highly recommend 5000U. I have M5610 and 5000U. 5000U strap is softer and much more comfortable to wear. 5000U has more weight, which makes it feel better on wrist. 5000U visual outlook is better to my eye. Adjustable date format (M.DD or DD.M) and adjustable day of week language (English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian) Same watch just an EU release apparently. Wouldn’t get to hung up about the JF/ER. Go for the best deal. time zones (48 cities +coordinated universal time), daylight saving on/off, Home city/World time city swappingThe world-time function was the closer for me and ended my hunt for a dedicated, mechanical world-time watch. I was agonizing over adding yet another watch to my collection that would be single-purpose, and a relatively quirky one at that. The GW-5000U-1JF is a veritable Swiss Army knife. In the week I’ve owned it, I’ve found multiple uses for the stopwatch, timer, and alarm functions as well. And I’ve used the world-time function more often than I thought I would already. I may be at serious risk of a one-watch collection if I don’t start wearing another watch soon. The watch is 20ATM. This means the watch is suitable for diving. The watch comes with 2 Year Warranty. Home city time and world time display swap in world time mode by pressing the top two buttons (A and B) at the same time Auto receive up to six* times a day (remaining auto receives canceled as soon as one is successful)

I had to comment. I’ve owned the 5610 for a year or so and then saw the images of this one (I was looking for a more monochrome design). I don’t know of anyone who does it commercially, but you can find out more about the process on Google. The button tones for using the mode button can be turned off. This means that the watch no longer beeps when switching from one function to another. Preset alarm or countdown timers remain active when the button tones are deactivated. Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI think they are but will be interesting to compare against one advertised as 1JF. Synthetic resin is the ideal material for wrist straps thanks to its extremely durable and flexible properties.Countdown start time setting range: 1 second to 24 hours (1-second increments, 1-minute increments and 1-hour increments) Yep. Totally. Though, whilst you are technically correct, these sort of changes can double, triple, and quadruple the price of this style of watch. That is, in terms of how Casio typically places things like sapphire, titanium, STN etc in higher models. So, that kinda moves it out of the "classic square" category for me. For fans of precision: the countdown timers help you to remember specific or recurring events by giving off an audible signal at a preset time. The time can be set to the nearest minute and up to 24 hours in advance. Ideal for people who need to take medicines every day or those who do interval training.

It will be my fourth 5000, all previously and regretfully sold due to a mix of failing eyesight and dial readability. months on rechargeable battery (operation period when stored in total darkness with the power save function on after full charge) I don’t have the original 5000 but have a 5610 and a bunch of DW5600’s. I do prefer the dd/mm option and it’s a great watch, just the alarm is so quiet like all the solar atomics and the display on my 5610 looks perhaps a tiny bit clearer. Time in all modes is what makes it for me - and it could be an ‘only G’ if I didn’t have about 40 others too!! My core watches have been or are turning out to be relatively affordable, fun, and largely Japanese…world time settings (48 cities), 31 time zones, the additional 2 time zones are for the cities of Fernando de Noronha (-2) and Kathmandu (+5.75)All the upgrades are a positive and may be difficult to resist. The thing I have noticed compared to the GW-M5610U-1ER is that the strap is very much softer. I’ve read this comment from others previously and it really is true! The latest upgrade comes with some long asked-for changes, albeit pared to the core. Yet it also retains some of the best features of the original: the same dirt-cheap replacement bezel and strap that have been made for the past 10 years. DLC to resist scratches. Its shares the same module as non-steel watches that have been produced in far greater numbers, so replacements and spares are virtually guaranteed. Invisible solar cells in the watch convert light into energy and supply all functions. A rechargeable battery provides the necessary capacity for operation in poor light conditions.
