A power supply is used to reduce mains or three phase electricity, often at 240 Vac or 440 Vac down to a voltage that is usable, such as 12 Vdc. The PSU also converts the current rating, in the form of AMPS, to a level that is safe for the device that is to be powered. What is the difference between the types of power supplies? Delivered as standard this unit is supplied with a 2m heavy duty lead, fitted with a 3 pin NATO connector for direct aircraft connection, but extra extension and alternative format connections are available. Accessory items that are not covered under the No Worries Warranty carry a 90 day warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. This includes speakers, wire, cables, battery covers, etc. You can also use the power supply to equalize a lead acid battery by setting the charge voltage 10 percent higher than recommended. If by emulating a car battery you mean simply being able to provide the needed voltage and amperage without any concern for the behavior of a large load on a lead acid battery like voltage droop, sagging, inductance/capacitance, recovery effect, powered/alternator vs unpowered, etc, then yes, you can use it. Your pump doesn't care about the voltage or current source. Please note that not all Li-ion batteries charge to the voltage threshold of 4.20V/cell. Lithium iron phosphate typically charges to the cut-off voltage of 3.65V/cell and lithium-titanate to 2.85V/cell. Some Energy Cells may accept 4.30V/cell and higher. It is important to observe these voltage limits. (See BU-205: Types of Lithium-ion) First off, that symbol on the laptop pwr adaptor simply means that its output is DC current (as opposed to AC mains power).A power supply can also reverse sulfation. Set the charge voltage above the recommended level, adjust the current limiting to the lowest practical value and observe the battery voltage. A totally sulfated lead acid may draw very little current at first and as the sulfation layer dissolves, the current will gradually increase. Elevating the temperature and placing the battery on an ultrasound vibrator may also help in the process. If the battery does not accept a charge after 24 hours, restoration is unlikely.
