General Notices

THANK YOU !
A huge thank you to all who brought food to last week's Harvest Festival. This was gratefully received by the North Oxfordshire food bank, in a slight change to the notice in last week's service sheet. The kind donations will all go to local people in need.

CHRISTIAN AID BREAKFAST
Thanks to everyone who supported the Big Breakfast at Kidlington Baptist Church. A total of £406 was raised for Christian Aid.

MANY THANKS
for all your good wishes and cards on the birth of baby Thomas. He's settling in very well. Lizzie is quite resigned to another brother - she knew what to expect! I hope to be able to bring him over to introduce him before long. Judith Ryder.

CAN YOU SEW?
We need some help shortening the sleeves of the chorister robes! If you can help please contact David Hewett (07724 063194, dave_hewett@hotmail.com).

CHEQUES PAYABLE TO THE CHURCH
Since the change in bank account last year, any cheque for planned giving or otherwise must be made payable to Kidlington with Hampton Poyle PCC.

Dated Notices

HARVEST FESTIVAL 1st Oct
Our Harvest Festival services are on 1st October in all three churches. 9.30am at St John's, 10am at St Mary's K and 5pm at St Mary's Hampton Poyle. The last is followed by a Bring & Share Harvest supper. Why not celebrate harvest in a special way and come to Hampton Poyle this year? Donations of non-perishable goods are gratefully accepted for the Food Bank and Gatehouse projects.

Luther's Legacy Kidlington Methodist Church, 11.45am, 1st October
On the occasion of the quincentenary of Luther's publication of the 95 theses, this talk explores the legacy of the German Reformation. A particular focus will be on congregational singing and how the hymns shaped Protestant identity in Germany and Britain to the present day. We will look at (and sing) examples from the first Protestant hymnbook printed in 1524 in Erfurt to the Methodist hymnbook Hymns and Psalms. Henrike Lähnemann is Professor of Medieval German Language and Literature and coordinates the Reformation 2017 project in Oxford. She is a member of St Columba's URC and a keen singer. There will be a Bring and Share lunch and opportunity for further discussion after the talk. All welcome.

VISIT TO ST ALDATES 1st Oct
A group of us are going to the 6pm informal service at St Aldates on Sunday 1st October. This is being organised as part of the confirmation preparation, but all are welcome. Please contact Laura if you would like to come, or simply turn up!

Service of Confirmation 8th Oct
Confirmation preparation is now under way for adults and young people. Please contact Laura if you are interested in being confirmed or in accompanying the confirmation candidates in their meetings. The trip to Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday afternoon 24th Sep for a tour and evensong is open to everyone - just let Laura know if you would like to come. The confirmation service itself is on Sunday October 8th at 3.30pm at St John's. GATEHOUSE COLLECTION will be on October 12th. Please bring your contributions to 60 Cherry Close by 4 pm on that day, or put them in the clearly-labelled box on the table near the refectory door. Please remember that there are no cooking facilities at the Gatehouse. They can accept cakes, biscuits, sandwich fillers, fresh fruit, tea, coffee and Cup-a-Soups. I should also like to ask that the Gatehouse box in the Refectory be left where it is and not moved and also that nothing, apart from Gatehouse contributions, should be put in it, as contributions can be put into it at any time. Any questions? Please phone Sarah (371334) or Margaret (375916). Thank you!
