General Notices

THANK YOU!
Pat and Gail would like to thank everyone for their generous support at the Edukid Lunch on Saturday. Chris Turner was delighted to meet up with so many old friends. £250 was raised to continue our work in Cambodia. Thank you.
URGENT APPEAL: Christian Aid
Christian Aid income has been seriously affected by the recession and they do not currently have enough funds to support all the projects planned for 2010. On the 19th February they will be making a difficult decision, who not to help in 2010. They are appealing to you as supporters of Christian Aid to help by sending donations as soon as possible. You may send your gift direct or bring it to the Parish Office to be sent collectively.
WHAT IS HAPPENING IN KIMBERLEY AND KURUMAN
You are probably aware that I am heading back to South Africa once again on Wednesday, but you may not know what I hope to do there. In fact there are a number of projects on HIV/AIDS at an early stage, with which I am involved. On the diocesan level I will be meeting with others to assess the progress of the new Peer Education Centre in Taung, which is being supported by the Oxford Diocese. On the parish level I am seeking to find ways for us to support the proposed "Life Skills Project" at "All Saints", involving working with the Youth Group. This group has already been boosted by a visit from Masi Cowper and the Mercy AIDS Foundation, and I want to extend our support to them as they take a lead with the younger children, especially the orphans. I hope to bring the three schools we habitually visit within the programme led by Masi for the support of Orphans and Vulnerable Children. The "Fund A Football" campaign has also reached the stage when I need to put follow-up plans in place for the arrival of the footballs. These will be made in Zambia by "Alive and Kicking", which employs HIV positive people, and delivered by them to our link diocese. If the fund stretches far enough we would like to enhance this initiative with special football coaching which incorporates HIV prevention lessons in its programmes. It is my dream to see all of these programmes working together. Please remember me in your prayers when I am away and come to hear about how I got on at a meeting on Monday, 22nd February in the Refectory. Thank You, Kathryn
The Gatehouse has written
to thank you all for your generosity, love and concern for the work of the Gatehouse during the year. With the increase of costs they are asking for your help in keeping the charity buoyant. Besides your gifts of clothing etc, they ask that you give generously now and in the coming year as they depend on that generosity for over 80% of their income.

SPIRITUAL JOURNEYING TOWARDS LENT Wed 13th Jan
Epiphany is an ancient church feast which, in the Western church, celebrates the coming of the Magi to visit the Christ child. In this great season, the implication of Christmas resonates through our life and we begin, once again, to realise what 'God with us' truly means. In this series of five evenings you are invited to join us in exploring different ways that we can respond to God in our lives, and look at a variety of ways to seek him through prayer as we continue our spiritual journeys. The first session was cancelled on Wednesday 6th January due to the snow and the next sessions will be on
  • Wednesday 13th January (Spirituality and Sacrament)
  • Wednesday 27th January (Prayer and Silence)
in the refectory of St Mary's from 7.30pm until 9pm. There will be a simple soup supper and a time for discussion and prayer. If you are interested to join us, please sign up at the back of church so that we can have an idea of numbers. Please see the Revd. Gillian Straine for more details.
