AG Barr started its journey off in a small factory in Scotland, Falkirk, growing into one of the UK’s leading independent soft drinks businesses. Following today’s announcement, it adds Rio to its range of leading brands including Irn Bru, Rubicon, FUNKIN and Boost.

Barr has been marketing, selling and distributing Rio on an exclusive licence basis via its Boost Drinks division since 2021 (Boost Drinks was acquired by A.G. Barr last year). Rio is a ‘delicious blend of 11% real fruit and juice (orange, guava, apricot, mango and passionfruit) in lightly sparkling water’. The drink is gluten-free, dairy-free and suitable for vegetarians and vegans.Rio was redesigned again in 2017 by Pearlfisher taking inspiration from Brazilian street art to target a younger demographic. [4] [5] The logo was changed as well, with the ‘O’ being turned into a sun to emphasise their slogan of "Celebrate the Sunny". [6] In June of the same year, they introduced 500ml PET bottles. Rio joins A.G. Barr’s portfolio of well-known UK brands such as IRN-BRU, Rubicon, FUNKIN and Boost. In December the company also gained full ownership of MOMA Foods, a barista-focused oat drink brand. Acquired from independent brewer and pub company, Hall and Woodhouse Limited, tropical fruit brand Rio has been marketed, sold and distributed on an exclusive licence brand by AG Barr’s recently acquired Boost Drinks division for the last two years.
